Two states, one vote
Compare voting rules side by side
At college in one state with a home address in another — or just moved? You can only vote in one place, but you usually get to choose which. Compare the rules and pick the state where voting is easiest for you.
The rules of choosing
Students:you can register at your campus address or your home address — your choice, but only one at a time. Registering somewhere new automatically supersedes the old registration when states sync up, but it's good practice to cancel the old one.
Voting from away:if you stay registered at home, you'll likely vote by mail — check the request deadline above and whether your state needs an excuse (being away at school counts in every excuse state).
Never both: voting twice in the same election is a crime everywhere. One state, one ballot.
